Photography & poetry
Mau Chi
Mau Chi is an artist whose work explores the complex relationship between quantum physics and Japanese aesthetics. His art delves into the layers of meaning that arise through perception, inspired by principles such as Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, Schrödinger's superposition, and Japanese concepts like yugen and wabi-sabi.
Mau Chi’s work plays with light and shadow, shifting between form and formlessness, and embracing impermanence and imperfection, reflecting both the quantum nature of reality and Zen insights into the transient beauty of the world. His photography captures the ongoing dance between the defined and the undefined, presence and absence, inviting the viewer to contemplate the mystery that lies beyond our direct perception. Mau Chi’s residency at Spazio Nour offers a space to develop Shadow from Light, an artist’s book combining black and white photography with haiku poetry, merging Eastern and Western aesthetics.

Suzanne Roes

In January 2024, her debut book The Politics of Fertility was published by ISVW. In it, she examines how legislation and social norms influence reproductive autonomy. In addition, she writes philosophical essays on moral emotions, gender, and social justice.

During her residency at Spazio Nour, Suzanne is working on her next book: The Ethical Criminal. In this work, she investigates stories of individuals who break the law out of moral conviction – from climate activists and humanitarian aid workers to ordinary citizens facing ethical dilemmas in their daily lives. Her research builds a bridge between philosophy, law, literature, and the practice of resistance.
